Each
day during Passover we read a different section from the Torah.
First
Day
Reading:
Shemot 12:21-51
Maftir:
Bemidbar 28:16-25
Haftara:
Yehoshua 5:2-6:1, 7:1
This
portion relates to the events that come before the Exodus and
continues with the plague of the firstborn and the Exodus. It
concludes with the different laws involved with eating the Passover
lamb.
The Maftir portion describes the sacrifices of the day that were
brought to the Temple.
In
the Haftara, we read that the People of Israel celebrated before
beginning to fight for the Land of Israel. |

Day

Bemidbar 28:16-25
Haftara:
Melahim II 23:1-9, 21-25
The
Torah reading tells of a number of laws for sacrifices. It also warns
the people no to profane HaShem's name, "Because He took us our
of Egypt." This is followed by a brief explanation of Shabbat,
Pesach, Shavout, Yom Kippur and Sukkot. In the Haftara, we read how
the king commands the people of Israel to keep Passover. This is their
first Passover since the reign of the Judges. |

Third
Day
Reading:
Shemot 13:1-16
Maftir:
Bemidbar 28:16-25
we
read about the laws of the firstborn humans and animals in the
beginning of the Torah reading. There is also a commandment to
remember the Exodus especially when entering the Land of Israel. One
way of doing this is to educate our children and another way is to
wear tefillin as a bond between us and HaShem. |

Day

Bemidbar 28:16-25
The Torah
reading begins with different laws from giving charity to the laws
having to do with the actions of the Judges. It concludes with the
holidays of Passover, Shavout, and Sukkot, and the commandment to go
to Jerusalem and bring sacrifices during the holidays. |

We read about
the new covenant that HaShem has made with the People of Israel after
they sinned with the Golden Calf. |

Day

Maftir:
Bemidbar 28:16-25
We read about
the special laws of Pesach Sheni, "The second Pesach". All
of those who couldn't bring the Passover lamb during the proper time,
either because they were impure or they were too far away, could bring
it one month later on the 15th of Iyar. |

Yehezkel 36:37 - 37:14
Shir
ha'shirim - The song of songs, is a love song composed by King
Solomon. It describes the love of Israel to HaShem. The Torah
portion begins with Moses' request to see HaShem's greatness.
HaShem explains that no one can see him and live. He ends up putting
Moses into the cleft of a rock and showing him a vision. The reading
goes on to deal with the covenant with The People of Israel after the
Golden Calf. HaShem gives a list of commandments to do when they enter
the Land of Israel. In return HaShem promises that they will defeat
their enemies and widen their borders. This will enable them to travel
safely to Jerusalem during the festivals. |

Seventh
Day
Reading:
Shemot 13:17 - 15:26
Haftara:
Shmuel II 22:1-51
We read about
the Exodus and the miracle at the Red Sea. The Torah reading continues
with the song of praise that the people of Israel sang to HaShem after
they crossed the sea safely. It concludes with the miracle that HaShem
did when He showed Moses how to sweeten the waters when the People of
Israel complained of thrust. |

We read of
the importance of charity and helping one another. The Torah reading
concludes with an overview of the festivals. |
